To be lost in nature is to be found is a visual and verbal contemplation. The book offers the reader to reflect on their relationship with the natural world. Each page is an invitation to deepen awareness and appreciation for nature and our indissoluble relationship to it.
Initial responses to the book have been extremely favorable:
“I’ve spent some pleasant time on our sun porch this past week reading through To Be Lost In Nature Is to Be Found. A delight. Robin Brandes’ images are hypnotic and mysterious, and Leisha’s writing complements them beautifullyv. I’ve always wanted to do a book like that, and this beautiful thing just sharpens my desire.”
~ George Bilgere, Poet and Professor
“Gorgeous little book, and very handsomely produced.”
~ Erik T., award winning screenwriter, playwright and novelist
“Really beautiful little book.”
~ Gary K., Professor of Philosophy, University of Glasgow, Scotland
“The book is so powerfully evocative and deeply feminine. The images and words feel particularly relevant.”
~ Cheri Forrester, MD
“The beauty of both the visual and the prose is so cohesive and moving.”
Kate G., Iyengar Yoga instructor
When Robin Brandes and Leisha Douglas met 22 years ago in Bali, Indonesia for a healing arts tour, they discovered they were kindred spirits and would remain close friends thereafter. Despite living on opposite coasts, they continued to share and cultivate their mutual love of art, poetry, meditation and hiking in the woods (not to mention consignment shopping) together.
This book is their inaugural collaboration of their respective creative talents. Robin brings her virtuosity as a graphic designer, painter, book designer and bookbinder while Leisha brings her many years as a published poet and writer to this project. To be lost in nature is to be found invites the reader into a contemplative relationship with our natural world.
Robin Brandes is a long-time resident of San Anselmo, California. She is an award-winning graphic designer with over thirty years experience dedicated to creating inspiring visual communications.
Robin’s love and skill creating art books evolved from her deep knowledge of graphic design. She has studied drawing, painting, mixed-media, and photography for decades. Her photos and drawings included in this book were spawned by those exquisite moments quietly observing her own inner workings absorbed by the beauty of the natural world.
She wishes her art to be consoling. This book, To be lost in nature is to be found, is her first limited edition.
As a professional psychotherapist and part-time yoga teacher practicing in Katonah, New York, Leisha Douglas feels blessed to have satisfying work and time to write as well.
From 2001 to 2010, Leisha co-directed the Katonah Poetry Series with former Poet Laureate Billy Collins. She currently serves as poetry consultant to the series committee. Leisha’s chapbook, The Season of Drunken Bees, received special mention in The Comstock Review’s Niles 2009 Chapbook Competition. Her poems have appeared in The Alembic, Corium Magazine, The Cortland Review, decomP, Forge, Front Porch, Ghoti, Ginbender Poetry Review, Hakomi Forum, Helix, Minetta Review, Peregrine, Sanskrit, Vending Machine Press, and Whistling Shade Journal.
