Véronique Jansseune

Véronique Jansseune

Véronique Jansseune, born in 1965, lives and works in Bruges, Belgium.

Art has been a constant in Véronique’s life since young age. She pursued art classes at the academy but was equally passionate about sports, particularly synchronized swimming. Eventually, the demands of combining art, sports, and school led her to focus on her athletic career. Despite this shift, her creative spirit remained ever-present. Following her sports career, Véronique worked in tourism and fashion. Yet, the pull of art was irresistible.

In 2005, she returned to painting with renewed passion and dedication, fully embracing her artistic journey. Over the years, her work has gained appreciation and is widely collected in Belgium. In 2021, Véronique was awarded third prize in the prestigious “National Prize Louise Dehem” competition in Ypres. She was also selected to exhibit at the renowned Raf Van Severen Gallery in Antwerp.

Véronique’s art reflects her fascination with aesthetics and her search for beauty in all aspects of life. Profound personal losses have deepened her interest in themes of eternity and peace which resonate throughout her paintings. She draws inspiration from Classical Antiquity, architecture, and the impressions of daily life, blending them into her artistic expression.

In a life overwhelmed by stimuli, Véronique tries to turn restlessness into inner peace through colors, shapes, and patterns. Feelings and impressions underlie her work. She distills these down to the essence in which forms take on color. The colors, in turn, create patterns and dimensions that repeat themselves over and over again. From this repetitive action flows a rhythmic and soothing process. The results on canvas are geometric, abstract, and architecturally oriented works in which a fine dynamic plays between static and slow movement. She paints very precisely and with an eye for detail. The works enter into a relationship with the context; they do not end with the physical boundaries of the canvas.

ARTIST STATEMENT

Finding and developing my own style, working method and execution is an endless process. I, myself as a person and consequently my work goes through a constant evolution in which both emotions and interests grow and evolve.

Painting is my way of letting go of the chaos and busyness of everyday life and thus finding much needed peace. In turn, I hope that the viewer will consciously pause to contemplate the work and thus may also experience this peace.

I make art because:

I escape

I feel it

It is necessary for me

I love purity, beauty and honesty

I am looking for peace, rhythm and balance

Colors speak to me

The viewer would feel something
